Catégorie

Le prix Nebula (Nebula Award) est décerné, chaque année, par la Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America à l'œuvre de science-fiction jugée la plus novatrice. Il n'est attribué qu'aux auteurs américains et comporte quatre catégories dans lesquelles chaque œuvre concourt en fonction de sa taille :

• roman (plus de 40 000 mots) ;
• roman court (novella) (entre 17 500 et 40 000 mots) ;
• nouvelle longue (novelette) (entre 7 500 et 17 500 mots) ;
• nouvelle courte (short story) (moins de 7 500 mots).

La première remise de prix eut lieu en 1965 et récompensa Dune de Frank Herbert avec le prix du meilleur roman. Depuis 1974, est également décerné le Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award (grand maître) qui consacre l'ensemble de l'œuvre de l'auteur méritant.
